The La Roche College Redhawks remained undefeated on the year, winning by a score of 78-68 over Saint Vincent in the Carey Center.
The teams had been tied 34-34 at the half, but La Roche outplayed SVC in the second half to earn the win.
La Roche tallied the game's first four points and led throughout much of the first four minutes. A three-pointer by
Elle Collins later tied the game, 8-8, and SVC took its first lead on a baseline drive by
Jasmine Weems with 13:55 remaining in the first half (10-8).
Over the next eight minutes, the teams continued to trade baskets, as the game was tied four different times. A free throw put SVC ahead, 24-23, but the Redhawks then went on a 7-0 run to take a six-point advantage with 3:15 left, thanks mostly to a pair of 3-pointers by Casie Cygan.
A score by
Ashlee Darby brought the lead down to four, and later, down five, Collins hit a three-pointer to make it a two-point game. Collins then hit a pair of free throws, two of her 10 first half points, to tie the game at the halftime break.
Another score by Darby put SVC in front to start the second half, but Cygan hit yet another trey to give the lead back to the visitors just 30 seconds into play, and they held that lead until the midway point of the period.
A jumper from
Hannah Carroll, followed by a pair of free throws by
Kayla Stockenus tied the game, 51-51, but the Bearcats were never able to take the lead.
Jillian Kegg came off the bench and played a strong final 10 minutes, keeping the game close with a pair of key three-pointers, but SVC was unable to fully recover, falling by 10.
For La Roche, LaShauna Brothers scored a game-high 22 points, while Cygan and Mackenzie O'Connell each added 21. Brothers had 12 rebounds to lead both teams on the boards.
The Bearcats were led by Collins' 16 points, while Weems added 13 and Kegg had 12 in just 11 minutes of play.Â
Taylor Mathers had 7 rebounds.
SVC is now 1-2 on the season, while La Roche improves to 4-0. The Bearcats will be back in action on Tuesday night, hosting Juniata College at 7PM in the Carey Center.
