The Saint Vincent women's basketball team defeated Waynesburg by a score of 71-58, overcoming a two-point halftime deficit.
Both teams struggled offensively in the opening 10 minutes, but the game remained close throughout the half. The largest lead either team enjoyed was a 27-22 advantage held by the Yellow Jackets with 2:08 to go, but SVC then scored five straight points to tie the game. A score from Brittany Spencer with one second left gave the visitors a 29-27 edge at the break.
Melissa Mansur hit a long two-pointer to tie the game in the opening moments of the second half, but the Bearcats found themselves down 40-39 near the 12-minute mark.
Ariel Rocco then scored on a turnaround jumper to start an 8-point run, capped by a
Jordan Clinton layup, that made the score 47-40.
Up 50-44, McGrath then scored six straight points with less than seven minutes left, running the lead to twelve.
Elle Collins later hit a pair of three pointers within a 45-second span with under three minutes remaining to seal the win.
McGrath led all scorers on the night with 14 points, including 12 in the second half. Collins, Mansur and
Taylor Mathers each added 11. McGrath had a game-high 9 rebounds, to go along with six steals. Mansur had 7 assists, while McGrath added five.
Gina Rievel had 13 points to pace the Jackets (12-12, 11-6 conference).
With the win, SVC is now 19-5 overall, 15-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. The team has clinched second place, and will host first-place Thomas More College on Saturday at 2PM in the regular season finale.
