SVC rally falls short against Allegheny, 12-11

BOX SCORE

LATROBE (March 14) - The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team out-scored Allegheny, 5-2, in the second half, but was unable to overcome a four-goal halftime deficit, falling 12-11 on the SVC Turf.

With the loss, the Bearcats drop to an even 2-2 on the season, while the Gators improve to 4-1 this year.

Molly Snyder opened the game's scoring with a goal just under five minutes into play, on an assist by Nora Posival. Hannah Hackman then added to the Bearcat lead, 2-0, with a free-position goal at 24:19. The next four goals were scored by the Gators, however, with the first two coming 25 seconds apart and the final two occurring 26 seconds apart, 4-2.

Kaley Burkardt and Megan Fisher tied the game, 4-4, with free-position goals at 14:32 and 13:29, but a goal down a player by Allegheny answer the SVC scores and gave the guests the lead back, 5-4.

Posival tied the game at five at the 8:46-mark and Alyssa Lang gave SVC the lead, 6-5, with a free-position goal at 7:29. The Gators, however, scored the final five goals of the first half, including one as time expired, to take a 10-6 lead into halftime.

Lang opened the second half with a free-position goal at 22:38, while the Gators answered 1:29 later, 11-7.

Posival found Snyder again with 17:43 remaining and Hackman scored an unassisted goal at the 13:03-mark to make it a two-goal game, 11-9.

Allegheny's final goal at 11:33 provided the insurance the Gators needed. Snyder tallied a free-position goal at 4:31 and Posival scored, unassisted, at 2:04, to make it a one-goal game, but the Bearcats were unable to tie the game and force their second-straight overtime game.

The Gators held a 31-20 advantage on shots, behind a 22-8 first half. SVC picked up one more ground ball, 33-32, and Allegheny won six more draws, 15-9, despite the teams being even in the second half, 4-4.

Posival posted a team-high four points (two goals, two assists), while Snyder recorded a hat trick and Lang and Hackman each tallied two scores.

Jacqueline Morrow led Allegheny with six goals, while McKenzie Bell added five scores.

Michelle Mitchell suffered the loss, despite making eight saves on the afternoon, dropping her record to 2-2 on the season.

The Bearcats return to action on Monday, March 18 with a 5 p.m. game at Oberlin (Ohio).
