Women's Lacrosse posts 20-8 win against Calvin

LATROBE (March 23) - The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team scored 20 goals for a consecutive game as they downed Calvin (Mich.), 20-8, on the Saint Vincent turf.

With the win, the Bearcats even their record to 2-2 at home and post their second two-game winning streak of the season in moving to 4-2 this year. The Knights drop their third-straight contest to fall to 1-6.

SVC posted the first eight goals of the game to take an 8-0 lead just under 20 minutes into the game. Natalie Ambrozic, Megan Fisher and Alyssa Lang each scored two goals during the span, while Hannah Hackman and Amie Dobracki book-ended the run.

Calvin got on the board at 10:19 and again at 6:04, but SVC's Molly Snyder scored in the middle of the two goals on an assist by Nora Posival. Lang (from Maggie Garvey) and Snyder (from Hackman) then scored 22 seconds apart to put SVC ahead 11-2 with 3:19 to play in the first half. A Knights' goal with 37 seconds left was answered by Lang just 11 seconds later, and SVC took a 12-3 lead into halftime.

Posival put SVC on the board 1:55 into the second half, 13-3, but Calvin scored four of the next five goals to cut the Bearcat lead to 14-7 midway through the second half.

The Bearcats responded with four-straight goals in an eight-minute span, with Ambrozic and Garvey scoring the first two goals and Hackman posting the final two. A Calvin goal at 2:48 was the Knights' final score and Lang and Dobracki added goals in the final minute to make the final 20-8.

SVC out-shot Calvin, 42-24 for the game behind 26 shots in the first half. The Bearcats also controlled 22 of 30 draws.

Lang led all players with seven points (five goals, two assists), while Posival added six points (two goals, four assists). Hackman recorded four points, including a hat trick, Ambrozic also added a hat trick and Dobracki, Garvey and Snyder each had a pair of points.

Michelle Mitchell improved her record to 4-2 on the season, playing all 60 minutes between the pipes and making eight goals.

SVC is scheduled to return to action on Monday, March 25, hosting Franciscan at 4 p.m.
