BOX SCORE - GAME ONE
LATROBE (April 10) - A lightning delay led to an hour and 20 minute delay in the first game and game two was eventually suspended as the Bearcats dropped the opener of the Waynesburg doubleheader, 10-3.
With the loss, the Saint Vincent softball team falls to 9-8 on the season and 2-5 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play. Waynesburg improves to 9-12 overall and 1-6 in the league.
The second game was suspended in the middle of the third inning because of darkness. It is scheduled to be completed tomorrow, Thursday, April 11, at 4 p.m. in Waynesburg.
The guests struck first in the opening game with four runs in the top of the first inning. SVC had a runner on base and one out when play was stopped due to lightning with a two balls, two strike count on
Maria Adams.
A delay in the action did not slow the Waynesburg bats, as they scored one run in the second, two in the sixth and three runs in the top of the seventh, while posting 16 hits on the day.
SVC got on the board in the fifth inning when
Shannon Hite walked with one out and
Sarah Swettlen walked with two away. Adams then singled up the middle to plate the Bearcats' first run.
The Bearcats also crossed him twice in the bottom of the seventh. Swettlen reached on an error and Adams followed with a single up the middle.
Shannon Baczek flew out down the right field line, but Swettlen was able to tag and move ot third base.
Marisa McAndrews then doubled down the left-field line, scoring both runners.
Adams posted two of SVC's five hits, with
Lindsey Daniels,
Shayla Landman and McAndrews contributing the other three. Waynesburg's Rachael Moon went 4-for-5, while Jasmine Blackwell and Madison Presto each finished with three hits.
Emily Lauterbach suffered the loss, surrendering 16 hits in 7.0 innings, with 10 runs (eight earned) and four strikeouts to one walk. Waynesburg's Carrie Maier earned the win in going the distance.
In the second game,
Lynn Buffoni walked to start the second inning and
Christina Folino walked with one out to put two on.
Suzie Cool then singled up the middle to load the bases and Daniels hit a sacrifice fly down the left-field line to score Buffoni.
Ally Vrcek was pitching for Saint Vincent when play was stopped in the middle of the third inning and Waynesburg serving as the home team.
