Posival breaks all-divisions assist record in 24-4 win

LATROBE (April 11) - Saint Vincent senior Nora Posival broke the NCAA all-divisions record for assists in a game with 16 helpers as the Bearcats posted a 24-4 over Franciscan at Chuck Noll Field.

With the win, the Bearcats move to 7-2 on the season, while Franciscan drops to 1-12.

Posival broke the NCAA Division III record in the first half with 12 assists in the first 30 minutes. Her record-breaking assist came with 3:35 remaining in the first half on a goal by classmate Megan Fisher. The previous record of 11 was set in 1985 and has been tied five times through the 2012 season.

With her 13th assist on a goal by Katie Uhring at 17:45 remaining in the second half, she broke the NCAA all-divisions record of 12 that was set at the NCAA Division II level a total of three times through 2012.

Posival added three more assists in the game to finish with 16 helpers. She has already become the Saint Vincent single-season and career record holder for assists with 48 and 72 assists, respectively.

Alyssa Lang led SVC with five goals while Maggie Garvey and Fisher each added a hat trick. Hannah Hackman, Helena Shoplik, Molly Snyder, Posival and Kiana Wilson each recorded a pair of goals. The two goals for Wilson were the first of her career.

SVC out-shot the Barons, 40-11, and recorded 30 ground balls to 16 for Franciscan. The Bearcats also won 20 of 28 draw controls in the game.

Kelsey McMillen earned her second win of the season in her second start, making three saves while playing the full 60 minutes.

The Bearcats return to action tomorrow, Friday, April 11, traveling to Oberlin (Ohio) for a 5 p.m. start.
