Bearcats defeat Bethany, 9-0

BOX SCORE

The Saint Vincent College men's tennis team stretched their undefeated conference streak to four with a 9-0 victory over Bethany College.

In a match that featured singles play both indoors and outdoors, the Bearcats took care of business despite interesting conditions. Inside on a slick surface, Saint Vincent opened the match by sweeping all three doubles positions. David Cenkner and Anthony Nemanic paired up yet again to take an 8-1 victory. At third doubles, Sean Malone teamed with Nathan Walch and had little trouble en route to an 8-0 win. Chris Andrejcik and Tony Costantino sealed up the doubles sweep with an 8-2 victory at second doubles.

Making the transition to singles presented little adversity for the Bearcats. On the indoor courts, Anthony Nemanic finished first with a 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles. Sean Malone dominated with his serve to cruise to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at six singles. At fourth singles, Nathan Walch overcame adversity in the first set.  Down 5-2, Walch stormed back to take the set 7-5 and proceeded to capture the second set by a score of 6-2.

Meanwhile in the chilly conditions outside, David Cenkner kept up his stellar play this year with a 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles. Chris Andrejcik dropped just one game to decisively grab a victory at fifth singles. At first singles, Tony Costantino cruised in the first set and fought off resistance from Jimbo Peterson to finish with a 6-0, 6-2 win.

The team looks ahead to bump their conference record to 5-0 in the PAC as they welcome Thomas More on Thursday, April 4. The match will begin at 9:00 PM at the Greensburg Racquet Club.
