The Saint Vincent women's basketball team took control early, defeating the Geneva Golden Tornadoes 88-28 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play to remain undefeated on the season.

The Bearcats started rolling on all cylinders, as senior Ally Schmidt scored the first basket of the game at the 18:37 mark.  SVC would gain a quick 7-0 lead, highlighted by a Mara Benvenuti give-and-go lay in; followed by a Hannah Carroll three.

SVC's quick start forced Geneva to use an early timeout to regroup, but after exchanging a few scoring possessions to make it 12-8 SVC, the Bearcats scored 23 straight points, which featured solid teamwork and a balanced offensive attack.

The Bearcats offensive explosion began with a layup from sophomore Susie Ellis, making the score 14-8 with 12:25 left in the first half.  At the 11:11 mark, senior Taylor Mathers increased the lead to double-digits scoring on a layup off a Jasmine Weems assist.  Ellis hit a deep trey with 8:52 remaining, followed by a Mathers fast break lay in, making the score 27-8, SVC.

With 6:37 left in the half, Schmidt went on a scoring streak of her own, scoring six straight points; highlighted by a left-handed layup increasing the lead to 35-8.  The tornadoes would eventually end their 7-minute scoring drought with 5:03 left, but couldn't manage to control Saint Vincent's high-scoring offense.

Carroll hit a three off a Benvenuti inbound pass, capitalizing on an exciting first half, as the bearcats went into the locker room leading Geneva 46-12.  SVC orchestrated a balanced first half offense, highlighted by Mather's 10 points and 5 rebounds.

Even halftime couldn't slow up the bearcats offense as Mathers scored 6 straight points of her own, making the score 52-15 with 17:12 left in the game.  SVC would once again manage a lengthy scoring streak; tallying 20 straight points to extend their lead to 74-19.

Freshman Babette Sanmartin began the extensive run, hitting two free throws followed by a coast-to-coast layup with 13:37 left.  Weems and junior Jill Kegg connected on consecutive threes, as Sanmartin hit two more free throws before the Golden Tornadoes ended the run with just 9 minutes left in the contest.

The Bearcats lead was never in jeopardy, as Saint Vincent went on to the 60-point victory.

SVC was led by Mathers, who scored a game-high 18 points.  Schmidt netted 10 points of her own, as Sanmartin managed her first career double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 boards.  The Bearcats shot 42% from the field, capitalizing on 8-23 three pointers.

The Golden Tornadoes were led by Heidi Mann, who scored a team-high 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Saint Vincent is now 6-0 overall, 3-0 in the PAC.   The team returns to action on Friday, November 12 at the Hope College Post-Exam Jam Tournament in Michigan.
