The SVC women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 16-7 victory on the road at Thiel College.
The host Tomcats scored the game's first goal just over 30 seconds into play, but SVC roared back, scoring the game's next four goals - three by
Kaley Burkardt - to take a 4-1 lead. Â
Natalie Ambrozic also scored during the 11-minute stretch, which included a pair of assists by
Molly Snyder.
Near the 10-minute mark, SVC was forced to play shorthanded due to a yellow card penalty. Â However, the SVC offense managed to score three consecutive shorthanded goals, one by Jess Hueler and two by
Sarah Wallerstedt, to extend the lead to 9-3.
Saint Vincent outshot the Tomcats 20-4 in the first half, building a 12-3 lead on the scoreboard. Â The teams played evenly in the second half, each tallying four goals.
Wallerstedt led the way for the evening with 5 goals, while Burkardt and Ambrozic added four each. Â Snyder tallied six assists, while
Helena Shoplik had a pair of goals. Â
Michelle Mitchell recorded the victory in the net and had four saves. Â
SVC will open the home portion of its 2014 schedule on Saturday at 3PM, hosting Lourdes University on the Saint Vincent Turf.
