BOX SCORE - GAME ONE

BOX SCORE - GAME TWO

The Saint Vincent softball team continued its hot streak with a pair of wins on the road in Pittsburgh against La Roche College by scores of 10-3 and 8-7.

Game one started with a double by Lindsey Daniels, who then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Samantha Emert.  Sarah Swettlen then singled home the first run of the game.

In the third inning, Emert singled to left, then moved to second on a one-out single by Breanne Wallace.  After Becky Deane walked to load the bases, Shannon Baczek drove home a run with an infield single.  Christina Folino then cleared the bases with a three-run double, making the score 5-0.  Folino later scored on a Daniels single.

With the score 6-1, SVC tallied four more runs in the sixth inning.  Swettlen started the scoring with a one-out home run, which was followed by a Wallace double.  Baczek then singled home Wallace to make it 8-1.  Later in the inning, Laken Lyon singled home two more runs to complete the scoring for SVC.

Lyon earned the pitching victory, going the distance and scattering seven hits while striking out nine.

In game two, Daniels led off the first by drawing a walk.  She later scored on a single by Swettlen that gave the visiting Bearcats a 1-0 lead.

This time, however, the Redhawks struck back quickly, scoring three runs on five hits in the bottom of the first.

SVC came right back in the second, as Jenna LoVasco tripled with one out to start the rally.  After Daniels walked, Emert singled home pinch-runner Raelyn Fencik to make the score 3-2.  Swettlen then tied the game with a single that scored Daniels.  After Wallace walked to load the bases, Deane hit a two-run double to put SVC back in front, 4-3.

The lead would not last long, as La Roche came right back in the bottom of the inning with four runs on five hits, also taking advantage of a Bearcat error and chasing starter Cassidy Uscilowski.

Down 7-5, Saint Vincent got a run back in the top of the fourth, as Swettlen doubled to left to lead off and later scored on an error to cut the margin to one run.

The score remained 7-6 thanks to strong relief work by Emert in the circle, giving SVC one last chance in the top of the 7th.  After a pitching change by the Redhawks, Lyon singled to lead off the inning.  LoVasco attempted a sacrifice bunt, but beat out the grounder for an infield single.  Suzie Cool then bunted Lyon and pinch-runner Alie Reid ahead to second and third with one out.  Daniels then drew her fourth walk of the game to load the bases, and the tying run scored when Emert drew a walk, scoring Lyon.  Swettlen then hit a ground ball to short, erasing Emert at second, but Swettlen beat out the double-play attempt for a fielder's choice, giving SVC the 8-7 lead.

Emert then kept the Redhawks off the board in the bottom of the 7th to earn the win in relief.  In all, she worked five scoreless innings, striking out four.

Saint Vincent is now 9-3 on the season, winning five straight and 9 of its last 10.
