Bearcats unable to hold lead, drop 7-6 decision

The Bearcats were unable to hold a 6-1 lead over Eastern Mennonite University, dropping a 7-6 decision in Auburndale, FL.

AJ Kavinsky started the game with a single for SVC, then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Luke Fox.  Ben Webb then singled to left, scoring Kavinsky to give SVC a quick 1-0 lead.  A Chris Winkler single advanced Webb to third, then Jon White grounded out, scoring Webb to make it a 2-0 game.
 
After the Royals scored in the bottom of the second, SVC tallied four runs in the third, with Jordan Britcher supplying the big hit, a 2-run double. 
 
Freshman Mike Cramer was strong on the mound for the Bearcats through the first six innings, scattering hits but getting key outs.   However, in the 7th inning, with the score 6-3, EMU rallied for three runs, chasing Cramer and getting also getting to reliever Chris Storm, tying the game, 6-6.

In the bottom of the 8th, Storm yielded a leadoff single to Kyle Armstrong, who then stole second.  Brian Carroll then bunted to move the runner up, and the attempted play at third was late, leaving runners at the corners.  Greg Martin came on in relief and got a double play, but Armstrong what would prove to be the winning run on the play.
 
Storm (0-1) took the loss in relief.  Kavinsky and Webb each had two hits for SVC (1-2). 
 
The Bearcats return to action in Auburndale on Wednesday, facing Gwynedd-Mercy at 11:45AM.
