BOX SCOREThe Saint Vincent College men's tennis team tripped up the Washington & Jefferson Presidents, who were undefeated in Presidents' Athletic Conference play, 5-4 in an exciting match at the Greensburg Racquet Club.  Freshman
Tyler Brinton clinched the match for the Bearcats with a three set victory at fifth singles.
Saint Vincent moved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the PAC.
For the second match in a row, the Bearcats emerged with a lead after doubles play.
Sean Malone and
Chris Andrejcik erased an early deficit at first doubles before cruising to an 8-4 victory.  At second doubles,
Vince Anto and
Scott Reichard won a thrilling match 9-8(7-3).  Reichard closed out the match with a crackling forehand, followed by a blistering serve.
Malone (first) and Andrejcik (second) were the first two singles players to finish and both triumphed in straight sets to give Saint Vincent a 4-1 edge.  However, W&J took points at the third, fourth, and sixth singles positions to tie the match.
At fifth singles, Brinton won the first set in a tiebreak, but lost the second 6-2.  In the third set, Brinton trailed Chad Dille 3-1 before he won the next four games to take a 5-3 lead.  Brinton had four match points, but he could not convert any of them; therefore, the match moved to a deciding tiebreak.
Brinton and Dille traded points until the score was 4-4, then Brinton took the next two points to give himself a 6-4 lead.  After Dille staved off a fifth match point, Brinton converted when Dille hit a passing shot into the net.  Brinton's 7-6(4), 2-6, 7-6(5) victory allowed the Bearcats to take the match by the slimmest of margins, 5-4.
Saint Vincent travels to Thomas More (KY) on Saturday for its first true road match of the season. The PAC match is scheduled to begin at 1PM.
