BOX SCORESTEUBENVILLE, Ohio (Apr. 2) - The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team earned the victory in a high-scoring affair at Franciscan by a score of 19-12.
The win improves the Bearcats to 6-2 on the season while the Barons drop to 1-8.
SVC built a 5-1 lead over the game's first 7:30 as
Emma Weaver recorded a pair of goals and
Molly Snyder,
Sarah Wallerstedt and
Annie Mulloy each found the back of the net. After a Franciscan goal, the Bearcats went on a 4-1 run that built the lead to 9-3 with 4:42 to play in the half.
Alyssa McCuistion scored a pair of goals and
Maggie Garvey and Wallerstedt each also tallied goals during the span. Two goals by Franciscan and a score by
Bridget Synan and SVC held a 10-5 lead at the half.
In the first 1:46 of the second half, Wallerstedt scored a pair of goals and Weaver notched another as SVC led 13-5. With the score 14-7, SVC scored three unanswered goals, one each by
Natalie Ambrozic,
Amie Dobracki and McCuistion, 17-7. The Bearcats called off the attack the rest of the way as Franciscan out-scored SVC, 5-2, over the final 15:12 of the contest.
SVC held a dominating 48-21 advantage on shots and converted 9-of-11 clears while holding Franciscan to 10-of-25 clear attempts.
McCuistion tied for the game high with five points on four goals and one assist. Wallerstedt also recorded four goals and Weaver posted a hat trick with three goals. Dobracki, Garvey, Mulloy and Synan each totaled two points in the win.
Michelle Mitchell made four saves in 60 minutes en route to her sixth win of the season. Franciscan's Savannah Ruhe made an impressive 20 stops for the Barons.
SVC returns to action on Saturday, Apr. 5 with a 2 p.m. game against Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Washington & Jefferson.
