Fourth quarter rally sinks SVC, 5-4

WESTERVILLE, Ohio (Apr. 5) - Saint Vincent led, 4-2, after three quarters, but three unanswered goals by host Otterbein handed the Bearcats a 5-4 loss in men's lacrosse action at Memorial Stadium.

The loss drops the Bearcats to 2-8 on the season while the Cardinals improve above .500 with a 5-4 record.

Otterbein opened the scoring with a goal at the 10:53-mark of the first quarter by Pat Teynor. Bryce Pasquariello answered at the 6:37-mark off a pass from Matt Mackey that tied the game, 1-1, which held through the first quarter and until 7:11 remained in the second quarter when Teynor scored his second goal of the game, on a man-up situation, that sent SVC to a 2-1 deficit at halftime.

The third period was all Saint Vincent as the Bearcats used three goals to take a 4-2 lead through 45 minutes. Sean Kretovics scored a man-up goal at 11:50 to tie the game, 2-2, and Nick Pensyl gave the Bearcats their first lead of the game at the 9:27 mark of the quarter, with the assist to Pasquariello. Another score by Kretovics with 1:33 left in the game pushed the Bearcats ahead 4-2.

Otterbein scored two goals in the first five minutes of the fourth period to tie the game, 4-4, with Mikey O'Neal scoring at 13:23 and a man-up goal by Teynor coming at 10:11. O'Neal scored the eventual game-winner with 5:11 to play and SVC recorded just one shot the rest of the way, which was a save.

Kretovics led SVC with two goals while Pasquariello added a pair of points (goal, assist). Pensyl (goal) and Mackey (assist) each collected points in the defensive battle.

Otterbein held a commanding advantage in shots, 41-20, and dominated face-offs, winning 12-of-13 draws.

SVC goalie Greg Gonzalez suffered the loss despite making an impressive 17 saves in 60 minutes.

The Bearcats continue their three-game road trip with a pair of contests against Presidents' Athletic Conference opponents. Bethany (W.Va.) is up first on Wednesday, Apr. 9 at 7 p.m.
