BOX SCORELATROBE (Apr. 5) - Five different Bearcats scored multiple goals as the Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team routed Washington & Jefferson, 22-7, on the SVC Turf.
SVC improves to 7-2 on the season with the victory and clinches hosting right in the second-annual Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament at the end of the month by virtue of a 3-0 record against Thiel, Waynesburg and W&J. The Presidents fall to 0-5 this year.
W&J scored first, just 57 seconds into the game, but a free position goal by
Kaley Burkardt tied the game at 27:09. A goal by
Molly Snyder and an empty net goal by Burkardt following a foul against the W&J goalie outside of the crease made it a 3-1 game at 22:32.
A pair of goals by the Presidents forced a tie at the 17:30-mark. From there, the Bearcats out-scored W&J 11-2 over the final 15:37 to hold a 14-5 lead at halftime. Snyder scored four goals during the span and
Helena Shoplik totaled three scores.
A W&J goal started the second half, but SVC closed the game with eight goals to W&J's one, including a 6-0 run that spanned eight-plus minutes.
Natalie Ambrozic,
Sarah Wallerstedt, Shoplik, Burkardt,
Alyssa McCuistion and
Maggie Garvey found the back of the net during the run. McCuistion and Shoplik scored the final two goals of the game, giving SVC the 22-7 win.
Snyder led all players with nine points (five goals, four assists), Shoplik scored five goals and Burkardt tallied four goals. Wallerstedt finished with three points (two goals, one assist), McCuistion posted two goals and
Amie Dobracki registered a goal and an assist.
SVC held a dominant 50-13 advantage on shots, including 34-8 in the first half.
Michelle Mitchell earned the win, making a pair of saves in 60 minutes. W&J goalie Kelsey Rotenberg was strong in goal with 20 saves, including 15 in the first half, helping to keeper W&J in the game.
The Bearcats play at Wilson (Pa.) on Tuesday, Apr. 8 in the their next game action before returning home for next Saturday's Senior Day contest against Waynesburg at 11 a.m.
