BOX SCOREFAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (Feb. 28) - The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team dropped its season-opener by a 10-9 score at Methodist University in Fayetteville.
Methodist improved to 3-0 with the win, while SVC dropped to 0-1.
SVC opened the season with early goals from sophomore

Maggie Nelson, giving the Bearcats a 2-0 advantage. The host Monards then responded with three goals over a two minute span to take the lead at the 23:29 mark of the first half. Freshman
Katie Stallings answered back for SVC with her first collegiate goal, tying the score at 3-3 with 19:47 to play in the opening half.
A pair of goals by Nelson put SVC in front at 5-4 with 16:52 to play in the half. Methodist then finished the half strong, as they scored four of the next five goals. Junior
Helena Shoplik had the lone Bearcat goal during that stretch, scoring just 12 seconds ahead of the halftime buzzer, making it 8-6 Methodist.
Nelson continued her strong opening game of her career, tallying two more goals to start the second half, tying the score at 8-8 with 16:31 to go. After a Methodist goal, Wallerstedt answered to tie the contest at 9 with just 5:31 to go. The Monarchs got a late goal to earn the victory, scoring with just 2:35 remaining.
Both teams finished the match with 19 shots each. Nelson finished with five goals, while Wallerstedt scored twice and assisted another goal.
SVC returns to action when they face Mount St. Mary's (NY) in Clermont, Fla. on March 5. Start time is slated for 9 a.m.
