BOX SCORELATROBE, Pa. (March 11) - After gaining an early lead, the Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team lost a 20-6 decision to the visiting Shenandoah Hornets on the SVC Turf.
After a Hornets goal to open the scoring, SVC responded with three straight goals. Freshman
Maggie Nelson continued her strong start to the season, tallying another goal to tie the contest at 1-1. Sophomore
Hannah Carroll registered her first career goal, off a pass from Nelson, making the score 2-1 Bearcats.
Senior
Natalie Ambrozic scored an unassisted goal, giving SVC a 3-1 advantage with 25:24 to play in the half. However, that is when Shenandoah took control of the match. The Hornets rattled off a 13-1 scoring run to close the half with a 14-4 advantage over the Bearcats.
SVC couldn't slow Shenandoah at the outset of the second half either, as the Hornets scored the first four goals of the second half. Sophomore
Sarah Wallerstedt finally broke the string, notching her ninth goal of the season, making it 18-5 Shenandoah.
Nelson would tally the Bearcats final goal with 6:02 to play in the contest. The goal was Nelson's team-leading 13th of the season. Shenandoah was led by Liz Bereit, who scored a match-high six goals.
Shenandoah held a 35-9 shot advantage in the contest, while also scooping up 23 ground balls compared to the Bearcats 11.
SVC saw its record drop to 0-4 overall, while Shenandoah improved to 4-1 overall.
SVC opens Ohio River Lacrosse Conference play this weekend with a pair of road contests. The Bearcats face Thomas More in Kentucky on Saturday, March 14 at 1 p.m. before facing Franklin College in Indiana on Sunday, March 15 at 12 p.m.
