BOX SCOREby Brian Niemiec, Sports Information AssistantThe Saint Vincent men's tennis team opened the 2015 season with a 7-2 victory over crosstown rival Pitt-Greensburg in a late-night matchup at the Greensburg Racquet Club.
Doubles play saw the pairing of seniors
Chris Andrejcik and
Vince Anto getting off to a shaky start dropping two of the first three games. The pair shook off the rust quickly as they regained the lead (3-2) before eventually overpowering the challengers in an (8-4) victory.
Sophomores
Tyler Brinton and
Scott Reichard showed no signs of opening match jitters as they raced to a (4-1) lead at second doubles. Reichard kept his opponents off balance with a mix of movement and power on his serves and groundstrokes as he painted the lines. Reichard's partner, Brinton, complimented his game perfectly as he pounded shots down the middle to keep their opponents guessing. Â The pair dropped four of the next seven games before regaining their confidence to seal the (8-5) victory.
Playing at third doubles sophomores
Patrick McGee and
Dalton Yezovich played their way to an early (3-0) lead behind the heavy serves of Yezovich and the quick-handed McGee's net play. After dropping the fourth game the pair put the pedal to the metal as they powered their way to an impressive (8-1) victory to keep their career record as double partners unscathed at 6-0.
After capturing all three of the doubles points the Bearcats need just two singles points to secure victory.
Tyler Brinton pushed the Bearcats closer to victory at fourth singles, 6-0, 3-0, after his opponent retired during the second set due to injury. Playing at sixth singles McGee roared out of the gates claiming the first set, 6-0. He eventually clinched the victory for the Bearcats as he finished off his opponent in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Saint Vincent dominated the neighboring Bobcats winning the match 7-2.
Chris Andrejcik claimed the first singles point 6-2, 6,2, while
Dalton Yezovich overpowered his opponent on his way to a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Pitt-Greensburg claimed the second singles and third singles points 7-6 (3) and 0-6, 1-6 respectively.
