BOX SCOREPHOTO GALLERYLATROBE, Pa. (March 28) - The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team earned a 16-3 victory over Hanover on Senior Day in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference action at the SVC Turf.
The win helps the Bearcats move to 5-0 in ORLC play and 6-6 overall. Meanwhile, Hanover drops to 0-4 in league play and 1-7 overall.
After honoring their 10 seniors before the game, the Bearcats got off to a fast start early on. Senior
Natalie Ambrozic scored off a pass from fellow senior
Molly Snyder, giving SVC an early 1-0 edge less than two minutes into the contest.
Freshman
Maggie Nelson and Snyder both scored to push the lead to 3-0 in favor of the Bearcats at the 18:08 mark of the half. Sophomore
Sarah Wallerstedt then took a pass from Snyder and found the back of the net, pushing the score to 4-0.
Hanover finally got on the scoreboard, scoring with 13:55 to play in the opening half. Snyder then helped aid two more Bearcat goals, assisting on scores by senior
Alyssa McCuistion and Nelson, making it 6-1 Bearcats with 11:54 to play in the first half.
The visiting Panthers scored back-to-back goals before junior
Helena Shoplik closed out the first half scoring with a goal for SVC, making the halftime score 7-3 Bearcats.
Saint Vincent poured it on in the second half, sophomore
Hannah Carroll opened the scoring off an assist from Nelson. Snyder continued her recent hot streak, scoring two of the Bearcats next four goals, as SVC strengthened its lead to 12-3 with 21:13 to play.
Wallerstedt then pushed the Bearcats lead into double digits, scoring to make it 13-3 with 19:39 left. Shoplik, Wallerstedt and McCuistion each tacked on another goal each to close the score at 16-3.
Snyder put together another strong day, totaling three goals and five assists on Senior Day. Nelson racked up three goals and an assist, while Wallerstedt also chipped in three goals.
Senior goalkeeper
Michelle Mitchell made nine saves in 60 minutes of work, while holding Hanover scoreless in the second half in the win.
The Bearcats host Franciscan University on Tuesday, March 31 for a nonconference contest. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m.
