BOX SCORE (Game 1)BOX SCORE (Game 2)PHOTO GALLERY LATROBE, Pa. (March 29) - The Saint Vincent softball team exploded for 53 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Penn State Fayette in nonconference action. SVC took game one 17-0 in five innings, before adding a 36-1 game two victory in five innings.
Saint Vincent combined for 53 runs, 41 hits, 14 doubles and walked 21 times in the doubleheader sweep. The wins pushed the Bearcats' winning streak to six and improved their overall record to 12-2.
SVC opened strong, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the first inning of game one. Junior catcher
Breanne Wallace slugged a three-run double and freshman shortstop
Courtney Patterson added a two-run single in the frame.
The Bearcats added an eight spot in the home half of the third inning to take a commanding 17-0 lead. Sophomore
Samantha Emert had a pair of two-run doubles in the inning while Wallace added her third double of the game for two more RBIs. Six Bearcats recorded multi-hit efforts in game one.
Emert pitched three shutout innings in the circle to improve to 4-0 for the season. Emert allowed two hits and struck out four. Sophomore
Cassidy Uscilowski worked the final two innings, giving up two hits while striking out three Lions hitters.
The Bearcats' offense stayed hot in game two, scoring 14 runs in the bottom of the first inning. SVC batted around twice in the inning, as they sent 18 batters to the plate. Sophomore
Kelsey Lineberger launched a three-run home run to center, while
Jenna LoVasco,
Suzie Cool and
Marisa McAndrews each added two-run doubles in the frame.
SVC added six runs each in the second and third innings before adding 10 runs in the fourth inning to finish off the lopsided victory.
Cool put together her best offensive performance of her career, going 5-for-6 with three doubles, five runs scored and four RBIs. LoVasco added a four-hit effort and a game-high five RBIs, while
Rachel Harenchar and
Kristin Segiel each racked up three hits.
Uscilowski earned the win in game two, working two scoreless innings and striking out one.
Laken Lyon pitched the final three innings, surrendering the lone run of the day. Lyon struck out two and walked two.
Saint Vincent travels to Thiel College on Tuesday, March 31 to open Presidents' Athletic Conference play. The doubleheader is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start.
