BOX SCORELATROBE, Pa. (March 31) -
Molly Snyder recorded a career-best 12 points to help the Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team to a 23-16 victory over Franciscan in nonconference action on the SVC Turf.
The big game for Snyder helped her tie Hannah Doblick's all-time scoring record at 192 career points. Snyder also moved to within one assist of the career assists record at Saint Vincent. The 12 points tied for the second most in a single match in program history.
After Franciscan opened the scoring with the match's first goal, SVC rattled off the next six scores to take control of the match. Snyder played a hand in all six goals, scoring two and assisting on four others. Freshman
Maggie Nelson scored a pair of the goals during the early SVC run.
Franciscan answered with the next three goals to close the deficit to 6-4 with 9:35 to play in the opening half. Saint Vincent quickly responded with a scoring run of its own, tallying the next four scores to take a 10-4 advantage. Junior
Bridget Synan started the run with her first goal of the season.
Jess Heuler, Nelson and
Hannah Carroll each tallied a goal as well to push the Bearcats to their largest lead of the first half.
After two goals by the visiting Barons, senior
Amie Dobracki closed out the first half scoring with a goal off a pass from Carroll, making it 11-6 SVC at the break.
SVC continued its strong play, scoring the first six goals of the second half, taking a 17-6 lead and forcing a running clock. However, Franciscan came back with seven straight scores to close their deficit to 17-13 with 12:44 to play in the contest.
The Bearcats would score six of the final nine goals to stop the Barons hopes of a comeback. Carroll had two of the goals during the match-sealing scoring run, while Snyder tacked on three more assists.
The 23 goals for the Bearcats was a season-high as 11 different players tallied at least one goal in the match. Snyder led the way with 12 points (2 goals and 10 assists) and Nelson tallied a match-best six goals to push her freshman season total to 42. Carroll also recorded a five-point game with four goals and an assist.
Freshman
Alex Piampiano made 10 saves in a little more than 49 minutes of work in net, improving to 2-0 this season in starts.
