BOX SCORE - MT ST MARY'SBOX SCORE - KENYONPHOTO GALLERYThe SVC women's lacrosse team was unable to hold a halftime lead and lost to Mount St. Mary's (NY) by a score of 13-12 in overtime, then fell to Kenyon 22-4 in a rare lax doubleheader played in Clermont, FL.
Down 1-0 in the Mount St. Mary's game,
Natalie Ambrozic got SVC on the board at the 25:14 mark, and
Maggie Nelson followed with a goal just 12 seconds later to put SVC in front. Â Mt. St. Mary's would then add the game's next two goals to take a 3-2 lead, but SVC would close the first half in fine fashion, scoring four unanswered goals, two each from Ambrozic and
Sarah Wallerstedt.
MSM quickly came back with a pair of goals to open the second half before Wallerstedt added her third goal of the morning at the 24:08 mark, a shorthanded goal.
Later, with the game tied 8-8, SVC got back-to-back goals from Nelson and Wallerstedt to take a 10-8 advantage with 15:35 to go. Â Neither team scored for the next seven minutes, but SVC lost Wallerstedt near the 9-minute mark to her second yellow card of the game.
With 8:55 to go, MSM scored the first of three straight goals, and by the 5:50 mark had taken an 11-10 lead. Â Nelson scored an unassisted goal just under two minutes later to tie the game at 11-11. Â MSM had two free position attempts in the closing minutes, but SVC's
Michelle Mitchell stopped both shots, sending the game to overtime.
MSM tallied two goals in the first of a pair of three-minute halves to take a 13-11 lead, but SVC's
Amie Dobracki found the net with 11 ticks remaining in the first extra session. Â However, SVC was unable to score in the final three minutes of play, falling by a score of 13-12.
Against Kenyon in 85 degree weather, SVC showed the effects of the long first game, which had ended less than 90 minutes earlier. Â Nelson and Wallerstedt each scored twice for SVC. Â Kenyon held a 12-4 lead at halftime and shut the Bearcats out in the final 30 minutes.
Saint Vincent is now 0-3 on the season and will return to action on March 11, hosting Shenandoah University on the SVC Turf.
