BOX SCORE - GAME ONEBOX SCORE - GAME TWOThe Bearcat softball team earned a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference victories on the road in Pittsburgh, defeating Chatham University by scores of 8-1 and 15-3.
Battling a steady rain, SVC got on the board in the top of the first in game one, as
Sarah Swettlen singled to lead off. Â
Courtney Patterson's attempt to sacrifice the runner to second turned into a bunt single, and
Shelby Noel followed with a double that plated Swettlen, making the score 1-0.
An inning later, SVC added to its lead when
Samantha Emert and
Rachel Harenchar both singled to start the inning, then moved up on a wild pitch. Â Swettlen grounded out to the right side, bringing home Emert.
Up 2-1 entering the fourth, Swettlen drove home a run with a sacrifice fly, and Noel hit her second RBI double of the game, this time scoring
Suzie Cool, who had singled three batters earlier.
In the 5th, SVC broke the game open with four runs, the big hit supplied by Swettlen, who drove home two runs with a single. Â
Emert worked the first five innings for the win, yielding three hits, walking one and striking out five. Â
Laken Lyon worked two scoreless innings in relief. Â Noel went 3-for-4 with four runs batted in, while Swettlen was 2-4 with 4 RBI.
The Bearcats wasted no time getting on the board in game two. Â Swettlen led off the first with a book-rule double, and moved to third on a single by
Courtney Patterson. Â After Patterson stole second, Noel drove home both runners with a single. Â After
Emily Duerr singled and Emert reached on an error to load the bases,
Jenna LoVasco singled home a pair of runs to make it 4-0.
It stayed that way until the fourth, when SVC pushed three more runs across the plate on 3 hits and a Cougar error.
The Bearcats added two runs in the top of the fifth, with an RBI single from LoVasco and an RBI double by Lyon.
After Chatham answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 9-2, SVC tallied six runs in the top of the 7th, sending 10 batters to the plate and getting 8 hits.Â
Duerr worked the first four innings for the win, giving up just three hits.
At the plate, LoVasco had a career day, going 5-for-5, scoring twice and driving home four runs. Â Patterson and Noel each had three hits and three RBI. Â
Christina Folino went 2-4 with two doubles, scored twice and drove in one run.
SVC is now 8-4 in the PAC.Â
