BOX SCOREFresh off a school-record 31 goal output against Defiance, the Bearcat lacrosse team outscored La Roche 22-11 in Pittsburgh to win their third straight game.
Tim Oxenreiter and
Nick Pensyl led the way with five goals each, while
Patrick Kenna added three. SVC led 11-5 at the half, and outscored the Redhawks in each quarter, despite the fact that the teams were nearly even on shots, 47-46 for the game in favor of La Roche.
Brendon Masten and Pensyl scored the game's first two goals, but La Roche quickly came back, scoring twice within a minute to tie the game, 2-2.
Jon Souders then took control, scoring back-to-back goals for the Bearcats, giving the visitors a 4-2 lead after 15 minutes of play.
La Roche answered with a goal at the 13:34 mark of the second, but SVC scored four straight goals, two from Oxenreiter and one each from Pensyl and
Anthony Hogeback, to take an 8-3 lead. When
Michael Grus scored with one second left in the half, it made the score 11-5 in favor of SVC.
The lead ran to 14-5 after two goals from Oxenreiter and one from Pensyl in the first six minutes of the third, and the team never looked back.
Greg Gonzalez played the first 49 minutes in goal, making 10 saves and earning the win.
Connor McMillen had five saves. Oxenreiter added four assists for a 9-point afternoon, while Pensyl had 8 points, including three assists.
Bryce Pasquariello tallied 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists) as did Kenna (3-2).
Saint Vincent is now 7-6 on the year and will wrap up the regular season on Sunday, April 26 with a key Ohio River Lacrosse Conference matchup with Thiel College.
