GREENVILLE, Pa. (April 29) – After earning both the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference regular season and tournament titles, the Saint Vincent women's lacrosse program garnered a lot of recognition from the league in its postseason awards and all-conference teams.
Fourth-year head coach
Jym Walters earned Ohio River Women's Lacrosse Conference Coach of the Year honors, after guiding the Bearcats to an 8-1 regular season and then the inaugural ORLC Championship this past weekend. Walters helped the Bearcats establish a new single-season record for wins (13) and led SVC to a second straight conference title.
SVC saw 10 of its players recognized on the All-ORLC teams.
Molly Snyder and
Katie Uhring were both lauded as first team members.
Maggie Nelson,
Sarah Wallerstedt,
Helena Shoplik,
Kelsey McMillen,
Jessica Welch and
Michelle Mitchell were recognized as Second Team All-ORLC. Finally,
Hannah Carroll and
Amie Dobracki received Honorable Mention accolades.
Leading the way was Snyder. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native totaled 100 points (31 goals, 69 assists) to lead the conference in that category. Snyder also became the Bearcats program record holder in points and assists for a career.
Uhring scored five goals, picked up 34 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers this season.
Nelson totaled a SVC single-season record 66 goals in 2015, eclipsing Alyssa Lang's previous record of 63 from back in 2013. Nelson added 15 assists to tally 81 total points, a total which was second most on the Bearcats.
Nelson, a two-sport athlete at SVC, registered at least five goals in a match on seven different occasions. Nelson scored on 57.4 percent of her shots, including an 86.1 percentage on shots on goal.
Wallerstedt tossed in 47 goals and 11 assists for 58 points, helping her be named to second team honors. Wallerstedt also chipped in a team-best 20 caused turnovers.
Shoplik turned in 29 goals, nine assists and 33 ground balls. Shoplik was also named to the league's Sportsmanship Team.
McMillen and Welch both received Second Team honors after helping lead the Bearcats defense. McMillen collected 33 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers, while Welch added three goals, four assists, 33 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers.
Mitchell rounded out the Bearcats who gained Second Team status. The senior goalkeeper went 10-6 in net, making 115 saves and ranking second in league play in save percentage.
Dobracki was named Honorable Mention after totaling eight points (five goals, three assists) while also totaling 40 ground balls and causing 19 turnovers.
Carroll, a two-sport athlete, also was named Honorable Mention. Carroll ranked third on the squad in goals (36) and fourth in points (51).
