Snyder sets school records in sweep at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 8) - The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team swept a doubleheader over rival Waynesburg at John F. Wiley Stadium. SVC took the opener 19-6 before winning match two 20-12.

Senior midfielder Molly Snyder set the all-time school scoring record and all-time school assists record in game two. Snyder scored two goals and added 11 assists in the second contest. Snyder now has totaled 203 career points, surpassing the previous school record of 192 by Hannah Doblick. Snyder has tallied 110 assists in her four-year career, pushing her past the previous school record of 102 held by Nora Posival.

Helena Shoplik scored a career-high seven goals and added an assist, while freshman Maggie Nelson totaled six goals and two assists in the first contest, which served as the team's Ohio River Lacrosse Conference match.

In the first match the Bearcats scored the first four goals of the match, to gain a 4-0 lead. Waynesburg battled back with the next three goals, including a man down score, making their deficit 4-3. SVC responded with the next three goals, including two from Shoplik to make it 7-5. The host Yellow Jackets responded with two goals before Hannah Carroll finished out the first half with a score.

SVC then took control, scoring the first five goals of the half and outscoring Waynesburg 11-1 in the second half overall for a 19-6 win. Along with the fine game one performances from Shoplik and Nelson, Carroll added seven points of her own, scoring three goals and tallying four assists. Senior Michelle Mitchell made eight saves for the win in net.

The second match included six ties in the first half before SVC pulled ahead for a 12-8 halftime lead. The Bearcats held a lead of at least four goals throughout the second half before earning a 20-12 victory.

Senior Natalie Ambrozic scored a team-high five goals in the second match, while Emma Weaver, Mary Wilcox and Katie Uhring scored three goals each. Freshman Alex Piampiano stopped six shots in net for the win.

SVC now sits at 6-0 in the ORLC and 9-6 overall. The Bearcats host conference unbeaten Thiel in an ORLC showdown on Saturday, April 11. First place will be on the line with a 4 p.m. start time in Latrobe.
