PHOTO GALLERYThe Bearcat baseball team was unable to hold a late lead, yielding 8 runs in the 8th inning to fall to Capital University by a score of 10-4 in Auburndale, FL.
Bearcat starter
Dave Culeton found himself in trouble early, hitting the first two batters of the game then giving up a pair of hits as the Crusaders took an early 2-0 lead.
Â
Culeton then settled down, and the SVC offense went to work in the second, as
Greg Martin and
Chris Winkler singled with one out.Â
Jason Vater then hit a grounder that erased Winkler, but the throw to first went into the SVC dugout, allowing Martin to score.
Â
The score remained 2-1 until the fifth, when Vater hit a one-out double into the left center field gap.Â
TJ Kuny then hit a grounder to short but the throw to first was juggled, putting runners at first and second for
Brennan Hoffer. Hoffer responded with a double down the right field line, scoring both runners to put SVC in front, 3-2.
Â
The Bearcats added to their lead in the seventh, as Kuny singled and scored on a triple to left center by
Luke Fox. Â However, in the bottom of the 8th,
the Crusaders scored eight runs on five hits, taking advantage of two walks and a hit batsman. Â
Culeton took the loss, giving up 5 runs in 7+ innings. Â At the plate, Fox led the way with a pair of triples.
Saint Vincent is now 1-2 on the season and will face the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Wednesday (March 2) at 12:15PM.
