Greg Martin picked up his second save of the week as the Bearcats ended their Spring Break trip to Florida with a 3-1 win over Beloit College.
In the top of the second, Frankel hit a batter to start the inning, and a pair of SVC errors allowed the run to score, unearned, putting Beloit in front 1-0.
Â
While the Bearcat bats were kept quiet, Frankel did his job on the hill, keeping the opponents off the board from that point.Â
Â
In the bottom of the sixth,
TJ Kuny started a Bearcat rally with a one-out infield single that kicked off the glove of the third baseman.Â
Luke Fox followed with a single to right, moving Kuny to second. After
Dylan Kugler walked to load the bases,
Ben Webb tied the game with a flare single to left.Â
Eddie Kilkeary then gave SVC the lead with a sacrifice fly to right that scored Fox and moved Kugler to third.Â
Chris Winkler followed with a single that plated Kugler, giving the Bearcats a 3-1 lead.
Â
Frankel then shut down Beloit in the 7th to preserve the lead, getting some help from a line-drive double play hit right at Webb, who doubled a runner off second that had reached on an error.
Â
After Beloit got a leadoff single to start the 8th, Martin came on in relief of Frankel. Martin's curveball kept Beloit off balance and he struck out the side to get out of the inning.
Â
After a strikeout to start the top of the 9th, Martin got into trouble, walking the next two batters, but came back with a pair of strikeouts to end the game. Â It was his second save of the week, both times in support of Frankel.
Frankel worked 7+ strong innings, giving up six hits, walking three and striking out five. Â Martin got the final six outs, all via strikeouts.
Saint Vincent finishes the trip with a record of 3-4, and will travel to Virginia next weekend to face the Newport News Apprentice School in a 3-game weekend set.Â
