The Bearcat baseball scored 12 runs in the fourth inning and cruised to a 17-4 victory over Geneva College on the road in Beaver Falls.

SVC starter Tyler Frankel (5-2) got into a jam in the first inning, as Geneva loaded the bases with no outs.  However, Frankel regrouped quickly and struck out the side to end the threat.

Geneva got on the board in the bottom of the third, scoring on a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead.  The lead would not last long, as the Bearcats put together their biggest inning of the season in the top of the fourth.

Dylan Kugler started the inning with a single, then moved to second on a single by Ben Webb.  A Greg Martin single loaded the bases for Aaron Burger.  Burger battled through nearly a dozen pitches on a 3-2 count, fouling off every offering, before hitting a single up the middle that tied the game, 1-1.  Chris Winkler then put SVC in front with a sacrifice fly that plated Webb.  Jason Vater followed with a single that reloaded the bases, and Matthew Morrone drove home a pair of runs with a single that made it a 4-1 game.  After a pitching change, Brennan Hoffer hit a grounder up the middle that handcuffed the shortstop, one again loading the bases.  Luke Fox then drew a walk to score another run, bringing up Kugler as the Bearcats batted around in the inning.  Kugler walked to increase the lead to 6-1, and the lead grew by two after a 2-run single by Webb.  A Martin single made the score 9-1.  After another pitching change and a walk to load the bases yet again, a single by Vater drove home two more runs.  An RBI double by Morrone ended the scoring for the inning with the Bearcats in front, 12-1.

Up 12-2 in the fifth, SVC added a pair of runs on one swing, as Webb crushed a shot to right field that bounced off the scoreboard for a 2-run home run.  Burger, Webb, and Winkler each drove home runs in the 7th as SVC scored its highest run output of the season, with 17 runs on 17 hits for the afternoon.

Frankel worked the first five innings, giving up two runs and taking part in one of the season's top defensive plays.  A sharply hit grounder in the fifth caromed off the glove of third baseman Winkler back toward the mound.  Frankel hustled off the mound to his right, grabbed the ball, spun and fired to Vater for the 5-1-3 putout.

Mike Panchik worked two scoreless innings in relief, while Alex Augustine worked a scoreless ninth inning.

Saint Vincent is now 7-6 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, while Geneva drops to 2-13.  The teams will meet again on Saturday (April 16) in a twinbill at Bearcat Ballfield at 1PM.
