Bearcats overpower Thomas More in game 1 of twinbill

The Bearcat baseball team tallied 17 hits in a 16-2 victory on the road at Thomas More College in game one of a doubleheader in Kentucky, before falling 3-2 in the nightcap.

Dave Culeton (4-1) went the distance for the game one victory on the mound and received solid support from his offense, including a 3-run home run by Greg Martin.

Martin started the scoring with a fielder's choice in the first that plated Luke Fox.  After SVC loaded the bases later in the inning, Eddie Kilkeary drew a walk that made it 2-0, and Chris Winkler followed with another walk that made it 3-0 after a half inning.

The Bearcats added to their lead in the third on an RBI single by Aaron Burger that scored Jason Vater, who had singled.

Saint Vincent added three more runs in the fourth, as Brennan Hoffer singled and scored on a Dylan Kugler double.  After an infield single by Fox, Ben Webb hit a sacrifice fly to score Kugler, increasing the lead to 6-0.  An RBI single by Vater ended the scoring for the inning.

In the fifth, the Bearcats exploded for six more runs, with Martin, Burger and Winkler each hitting 2-run singles.  Martin then followed with a three-run shot in the sixth.

Culeton scattered six hits, walked two and struck out four.

In game two, Kugler led off the game with a home run for the Bearcats, but the Saints came right back with two runs in the bottom of the first on a 2-run home run by Ben Kenning.

SVC tied the game in the fourth, when Vater doubled to drive home Martin, who had walked.  However, the hosts scored a run in the sixth on three hits, and the Bearcats were unable to score in the 7th.

Dylan Pietrantoni (1-4) worked into the sixth, walking one and striking out two.

The Bearcats are now 16-14 overall, 9-8 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.  Thomas More is 20-7, and remains in first place at 14-2.
