Baseball drops doubleheader at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 30) - The Saint Vincent baseball team wrapped up the 2016 season by falling in a doubleheader at Waynesburg University in Presidents' Athletic Conference action. Waynesburg took game one 4-3 before winning 4-1 in game two for the sweep.

The Bearcats gained an early lead in game one, scoring three runs in the top of the first. SVC tallied the trio of runs despite recording only one hit in the frame, taking advantage of three Jacket errors. The lone hit of the inning was an RBI triple by shortstop TJ Kuny, as he made it 3-0.

Waynesburg methodically rallied back, scoring once in the second and in the fifth inning, cutting it to 3-2. The Yellow Jackets scored the tying and go-ahead runs in the bottom of the sixth innings, claiming the 4-3 win. Dylan Kugler paced the Bearcats' offense with two of the five SVC hits in the opener. Dave Culeton took the loss on the mound, working 5+ innings. Culeton allowed four runs (two earned) on three hits and walked four. Culeton struck out three Jacket hitters.

SVC fell behind in game two, allowing a run in the bottom of the first and three more in the bottom of the sixth. Kuny produced an RBI groundout in the seventh, scoring Adam Holliday to avoid the shutout. Holliday, Matt Whittaker, Braden Hoffer and Justin Bakewell each had one hit in game two for SVC.

Sophomore Dylan Pietrantoni took the loss on the mound in game two. Pietrantoni worked 5.2 innings, allowing four unearned runs on 10 hits. The righty struck out six hitters in the loss.

Saint Vincent wraps up the 2016 season at 17-20 overall and 10-14 in PAC play.
