The Saint Vincent baseball team dropped both ends of a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader to Thiel College at Bearcat Ballfield. SVC fell 12-4 in game one, before dropping game two by a 8-3 margin.

In game one, Thiel jumped to a 1-0 lead on a home run by Trent Smith in the top of the first off SVC's Tyler Frankel.  The visitors added a run in the second, then sent 11 batters to the plate in the third inning, scoring 5 runs on six hits.

SVC got a run back in the bottom of the inning, as Luke Fox singled, stole second, moved to third on an infield single by Dylan Kugler, then scored on a Ben Webb single.

Down 12-1, SVC added three runs in the bottom of the 7th, as Aaron Burger led off with a double and scored when Josh Reist reached on an error.  Braden Hoffer singled home Reist, and later scored on a passed ball.

Frankel (4-2) took the loss.  Matt Elko (2-1) worked six strong innings for the victory.

Saint Vincent got on the board first in game two when designated hitter Greg Martin launched a solo home run to center field, making it 1-0 SVC after two innings. The Tomcats responded back with five runs in the top of the third inning, two of which were unearned. The big blow in the inning was a three-run home run by Thiel's Nick Grice, which made it 5-1 Tomcats.

Webb drove home Fox with an RBI single in the bottom of the third, cutting the Bearcats' deficit to 5-2. After Thiel added a run in the sixth, the Bearcats looked poised for a rally in the bottom of the frame. Chris Winkler drove home Bobby Swartwout with a one-out RBI single, making it 6-3. Howver, with one out and runners at first and second, SVC hit into a fielders choice and had a second runner get caught off third base too far to end the inning.

Thiel added two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning and retired SVC in order in the bottom of the seventh for the sweep. Winkler was the lone Bearcat with a multi-hit effort in game two, adding a double in the loss.

Sophomore pitcher Dylan Pietrantoni took the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits in five innings of work. The loss drops his season record to 1-3 on the mound.

On the day, Thiel totaled 32 hits and SVC committed five errors in the doubleheader.

SVC drops to 5-3 in the PAC and 12-9 overall. Meanwhile, Thiel improves to 3-2 in the league and 14-6 overall.

Saint Vincent will look to bounce back when it hosts Grove City College on Friday, April 8. First pitch for the single nine-inning contest is slated for 3 p.m.
