After falling behind 4-0, the Bearcats scored 7 runs in the top of the 8th inning, going on to a 7-5 win over Nebraska Wesleyan University in Winter Haven, Florida.
Nebraska Wesleyan scored in the bottom of the first, after a double, a wild pitch and an error.  The Prairie Wolves added three more runs – two unearned – in the second to extend the lead to 4-0.
Â
From there, SVC starter
Dave Culeton settled down, throwing four straight scoreless innings. He got into a jam in the 6th, but induced a bases-loaded groundout to end the inning.
Meanwhile, NWU starter Jesse Maguire was dominant on the mound, giving up just one hit through the first seven innings.
Â
Maguire got into trouble in the 8th, walking
Braden Hoffer and
Parker Janosko to start the inning.Â
Tanner Yard then singled up the middle, scoring Hoffer.Â
Matt Morrone followed with a grounder to second. Â The second baseman attempted to force out Yard, but threw the ball into left field allowing Janosko to score, making it 4-2.Â
Patrick Mahon was then hit by a pitch to load the bases and send Maguire to the bench in favor of a reliever.Â
Greg Martin responded with a double just inside the third base bag down the line, scoring a pair and tying the game at 4-4.
After
Bobby Finn drew a walk to load the bases,
Eddie Kilkeary gave the Bearcats the lead with a single to left that plated Mahon.Â
Chris Winkler's sacrifice fly brought home the sixth run of the inning, then a Janosko grounder was misplayed at short, bringing home another Bearcat run to make it 7-4.
Â
Ben Davis came out of the bullpen and threw a scoreless 8
th inning for SVC, but gave up a leadoff walk in the 9th. After back-to-back strikeouts, a pinch-hitter doubled home a run for the Prairie Dogs, and Davis was lifted in favor of the closer, Martin. After a walk, Martin got a strikeout to end the game and even the Bearcats' record for the season at 3-3.
Culeton earned the win, working 7 innings, scattering six hits and giving up just one earned run. He walked three and struck out three. Â SVC had just five hits, led by Martin who went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI. Â
The Bearcats will wrap up the Florida trip against Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday (March 11) at 11AMÂ in Winter Haven.
