After falling behind 4-0, the Bearcats scored 7 runs in the top of the 8th inning, going on to a 7-5 win over Nebraska Wesleyan University in Winter Haven, Florida.

Nebraska Wesleyan scored in the bottom of the first, after a double, a wild pitch and an error.  The Prairie Wolves added three more runs – two unearned – in the second to extend the lead to 4-0.

From there, SVC starter Dave Culeton settled down, throwing four straight scoreless innings.  He got into a jam in the 6th, but induced a bases-loaded groundout to end the inning.

Meanwhile, NWU starter Jesse Maguire was dominant on the mound, giving up just one hit through the first seven innings.

Maguire got into trouble in the 8th, walking Braden Hoffer and Parker Janosko to start the inning.  Tanner Yard then singled up the middle, scoring Hoffer.  Matt Morrone followed with a grounder to second.  The second baseman attempted to force out Yard, but threw the ball into left field allowing Janosko to score, making it 4-2.  Patrick Mahon was then hit by a pitch to load the bases and send Maguire to the bench in favor of a reliever.  Greg Martin responded with a double just inside the third base bag down the line, scoring a pair and tying the game at 4-4.

After Bobby Finn drew a walk to load the bases, Eddie Kilkeary gave the Bearcats the lead with a single to left that plated Mahon.  Chris Winkler's sacrifice fly brought home the sixth run of the inning, then a Janosko grounder was misplayed at short, bringing home another Bearcat run to make it 7-4.

Ben Davis came out of the bullpen and threw a scoreless 8th inning for SVC, but gave up a leadoff walk in the 9th.  After back-to-back strikeouts, a pinch-hitter doubled home a run for the Prairie Dogs, and Davis was lifted in favor of the closer, Martin.  After a walk, Martin got a strikeout to end the game and even the Bearcats' record for the season at 3-3.

Culeton earned the win, working 7 innings, scattering six hits and giving up just one earned run. He walked three and struck out three.  SVC had just five hits, led by Martin who went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI.

The Bearcats will wrap up the Florida trip against Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday (March 11) at 11AM in Winter Haven.
