GROVE CITY, Pa. (April 12) - The Saint Vincent baseball team dropped a 15-3 decision on the road against Grove City in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
The host Wolverines put up three runs in the bottom of the first inning, before eventually building an 8-0 lead after four innings of play. Saint Vincent got on the board when
Bobby Finn scored on a wild pitch in the top of the 5th inning.
Greg Martin plated
Chris Winkler with an RBI groundout in the 6th to cut the deficit to 8-2.
Grove City tacked on another run in the sixth inning to make it 9-2.
Patrick Mahon produced an RBI groundout in the top of the 7th to close out the SVC scoring for the afternoon. GCC would add three runs each in the 7th and 8th innings to close out the decisive victory.
Nick LaCava led SVC with two hits, each of which were doubles. Winkler also added in two hits on the afternoon.
Freshman pitcher
Ben Davis made his first collegiate start and took the loss.
Grove City was led by first baseman Matt Waugaman, who went 3-for-5 at the plate with two home runs and six RBI.
Saint Vincent falls to 10-12 overall and 5-5 in PAC play. Meanwhile, Grove City moves to 10-13 overall and 7-6 in league action.
The two teams continue the three-game series with a PAC doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at Bearcat Ballfield. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
