The SVC softball team swept a pair of conference games at Washington & Jefferson College by scores of 2-0 and 15-8.
In game one, the Bearcats earned the win behind a strong pitching performance by
Samantha Emert. Â
SVC scored the game's only runs in the fifth, when
Kelsey Lineberger singled to lead off, then moved to second on a groundout by Emert. Â
Courtney Patterson then singled, moving Lineberger to third. Â
Mackenzie Gostomski then hit what would prove to be the game-winning single.  Lineberger scored, and when the ball was misplayed, Patterson also scored an unearned insurance run.
From there, it was all Emert, as she gave up just five hits, walked one and struck out three.
In game two, the Bearcat bats accounted for six runs in the first two innings. Â Gostomski started the game with a single, followed by a
Kelly Flaherty single.  Gostomski took third on the play allowing Flaherty to take second on the throw.  With one out, Kelsey Hunter singled home both runs.  Hunter later scored on a
Breanne Wallace single. Â
In the second, Gostomski again got things started, this time with a one-out single. Â After Flaherty walked,
Shelby Noel tripled home both runners to make it a 5-0 game. Â Noel then scored on a throwing error. Â
After the hosts came back with four runs, the Bearcats put together a 6-run, 6-hit inning in the 5th. Â Noel and Hunter each drove in two runs. Â The Bearcats added three more runs in the 7th inning and cruised to the win.
Emily Duerr (2-5) worked 5 innings for the win, giving up 7 runs but just two earned.  She walked none and struck out two.  Emert worked the final two innings.  Offensively, Gostomski, Noel, Hunter and Patterson each had three hits, as the Bearcats tallied 20 hits in the game.  Noel and Hunter each drove in four runs.
