The Saint Vincent men's and women's swim teams began the 2018-2019 season in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with a pair of strong victories at home against Bethany College. The Bearcat men were triumphant by a score of 96-45, while the women won 71-25.

The women opened the meet with a solid win in the 200 Medley Relay by
Ciara Lewis,
Landi Batykefer,
Samantha Mears, and
Skylar Piper, clocking in at 2:00.03.Â

Lauren Krecota claimed the top spot in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with an impressive 11:59.92.
Jill Cline came in second with a time of 12:42.49.Â
Â
The Women's 200 Freestyle found Lewis on top again, as she attained a time of 2:08.72. Teammate
Carly Grove finished close in second place at 2:12.79. In the 50 Freestyle,
Claire Kenna was victorious, posting a notable 25.65.Â

The 200 IM saw
Maddie Bartrug claim first place, with a strong 2:18.30, and
Marion D'Aurora came in second with a competitive time of 2:19.99.Â

The 200 Fly found Lewis once again grinding out another impressive victory, posting a time of 2:30.10. Mears finished in second by a razor-thin margin, clocking in at 2:30.24. The Women's team then swept the 100 Freestyle, with Piper claiming first (1:02.56), Cline in second (1:04.45), and
Carolyn Welka in third (1:13.25).Â

Bartrug returned to dominate the 200 Backstroke, attaining victory with a time of 2:25.27.Â

The 500 Freestyle saw D'Aurora control the top spot and win with an impressive 5:39.38. In the 200 Breaststroke, Piper succeeded again, posting a 2:47.23 with her first-place finish.Â

The final relay, the 200 Freestyle Relay, saw a competitive showdown between two relays of Bearcat women. At the finish, Bartrug,
Kelsey Sanborn, Cline, and Mears emerged victorious with a time of 1:50.13. Close behind were Kenna, D'Aurora, Welka, and
Sarah Boyle, whose similarly impressive finish clocked in at 1:50.57.Â

The men started off the meet with equal strength and vigor. The
Zach Baum-led quartet included
Andrew Rectenwald,
John Martin, and
Michael Schollaert; they succeeded with a notable 1:44.82.Â

In the 1000 Freestyle,
Benon Brewer achieved victory with an impressive 11:15.91. Second place found
Josh Ligus coming in with a solid 11:26.05.Â

John Martin, while out touched by Bethany's Cheyne Stresky, finished the 200 Freestyle with a remarkable 1:53.13.

The 50 Freestyle saw a Saint Vincent sweep by
Zach Baum (22.29),
Ethan Yant (23.30), and
Tyler Overmier (25.08).
Jacob Davis then claimed top honors in the 200 IM with an extraordinary 2:00.90.Â

Danny
Whirlow was victorious in 200 Fly, clocking in at 2:15.53.
Michael Marinchak claimed second place with a strong 2:19.75. In the 100 Freestyle, Martin found his way back to the top, touching the wall at 50.81.Â

Baum came in second in the 200 Backstroke, after Stresky, but still posted a notable 2:12.35.
Kevin Martin was close behind in him, coming in third with a 2:14.22.Â

Davis dominated the 500 Freestyle, winning with an impressive 5:13.31.

The 200 Breaststroke found
Justin Newman and
Jarod Palmer in a tight race, with Newman touching the wall first at 2:36.36. Palmer finished with a 2:37.14.Â

The men concluded the meet with strong performances all around in the 200 Freestyle Relay. The victors were the quartet of
Whirlow, Overmier,
Ashton King, and Davis. The second-place spot was claimed by Marinchak, Brewer, Ligus, and Rectenwald.Â

Both Bearcat teams will be away next Saturday, November 3
, as they journey to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania to compete in a non-conference matchup at 11 am.Â
