The Central College Dutch struck early and often, defeating SVC by a score of 18-6 despite a strong performance at the plate by the Bearcats'
Matt Morrone.
The Bearcats trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the first when
Tanner Yard led off with a walk. Â
Morrone followed with a two-run home run over the left field fence to make it 2-1.
Â
The Dutch tied the game in the top of the second, then opened it up with a five-run third inning, with five hits and a hit batsman helping them to increase the advantage to 7-2.
SVC answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, as
Morrone doubled and scored on a single by Kilkeary, who later scored on a
Nick LaCava sacrifice fly.
Â
However, the Dutch continued to add runs, while the Bearcats lone highlight of the middle innings was
Morrone's second home run of the day, a solo shot to left field in the bottom of the sixth.Â
Â
Morrone ended the day going 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI.
SVC is back in action on Wednesday (March 7) against Gwynedd Mercy. Game time is scheduled for 1PM but is dependent upon the length of the 9AM game at Chain O'Lakes Stadium.
