The Saint Vincent softball team hosted La Roche College in a non-conference matchup. The Bearcats split, losing game one 3-2 and winning game two 9-1.

Game 1 – La Roche 3, Saint Vincent 2

The Bearcats got on the scoreboard first as
Kelly Flaherty doubled to left center, driving in
Shae Robson. Later in the inning,
Megan Christner singled that allowed Flaherty to score. Saint Vincent led 2-0 after the second inning.

La Roche scored a run on a double in the fourth inning to cut the Bearcats lead to 2-1. The Redhawks tied the game and then took the lead in the fifth inning on two singles. La Roche led 3-2 going to the bottom of the fifth.

Saint Vincent's best chance to tie the game came in the fifth as the
Kelsey Tobin singled and
Lauren Miller drew a walk to put runners on first and second. However, Saint Vincent did not get a run across the plate and fell 3-2.

Flaherty led the offense with one hit, a run batted in and scoring once.
Celia Knappenberger started in the circle for the Bearcats and went all seven innings giving up three runs on six hits while striking out six. Knappenberger is now 5-2 on the season.

Game 2 – Saint Vincent 9, La Roche 1

In the second half of the doubleheader, it was the Redhawks that got on the board first in the top half of the first to take the 1-0 lead.

Saint Vincent responded as Tobin scored on an
Alona Sleith single through the left side. After
Johnna Karas singled to load the bases,
Sydney Gurneal cleared the bases with a double to right center and gave the Bearcats a 4-1 lead.

Neither team scored until the fifth when
Riley Assalone helped her own case as she singled up the middle to plate Karas and Sleith and extended the Saint Vincent lead to five runs (6-1). Later in the inning,
Abbey Ginter singled through the right side that scored Assalone and Gurneal.

With an 8-1 lead, Sleith singled down the left field line and scored Flaherty to end the game 9-1.Â

Sleith paced the Bearcats going three-for-three with two runs batted in and scoring twice.
Â
Assalone picked up the win as she pitched all five innings, giving up the one run on five hits and striking out three. She improves to 2-3 on the year.

Saint Vincent, now 10-6, travels to Monaca, Pennsylvania to face Penn State-Beaver on Tuesday, March 26. First pitch of the doubleheader is 3:00 p.m.
