Through the first two innings, both teams only allowed one base runner. In the third, it was Carnegie Mellon that scored first. The Tartans plated two runs and led 2-0.

Both teams were scoreless for the next two innings until the sixth where CMU added another run to lead 3-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Bearcats collected its first hit as Shae Robson hit a single through the left side. Kelsey Tobin moved Robson up a base with a single of her own.

Lauren Miller then reached on a fielder's choice as Robson was thrown out at third. Saint Vincent ended the shut out as Alona Sleith singled to left field that scored Tobin.

Trailing 3-1 going to the seventh, the Bearcats shut down the Tartans and tried to tie or win the game. With one out, Riley Assalone collected a pinch-hit single to left. Abbey Ginter followed by drawing a walk and then Johnna Karas loaded the bases with a single.

Unfortunately, Saint Vincent did not capitalize on the opportunity and fell by the 3-1 final.

Game 2 Recap – Carnegie Mellon 6, Saint Vincent 4 (9 Inn.)

In the second half of the twinbill, the Tartans scored first again as they put one run on the board in the third.

The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth. The inning started when a pitch hit Miller, she was then pinch-ran for by Megan Christner. Christner advanced to second on a passed ball then onto third when Sleith reached on an error. Sydney Gurneal then drew a walk to load the bases with no outs.

Starting pitcher, Celia Knappenberger stepped into the box and delivered a single to centerfield that scored Christner and Sleith. The Bearcats did not add another run as the game headed to the seventh.

In the top of the seventh, Carnegie Mellon scored a run with two outs and tied the game at two. The score remained this through Saint Vincent's turn to bat as the game headed to extra innings.

Since the game was a non-conference matchup, International Tiebreaker rules were in effect. This means the batting team starts with a runner on second base. In the top of the eighth, the Tartans scored one run to take a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, with two outs and Sleith on second, Kelly Flaherty singled up the middle to score Sleith and tie game at three.

In the ninth inning, Carnegie Mellon scored three runs and claimed a 6-3 lead. As the Bearcats came to bat, Kaylee Ludwick was placed on second. Ludwick advanced to third as Kelsie Linden reached on an error.

As Linden stole second, Ludwick broke for home as the ball left the catcher's hand. However, Saint Vincent was not able to score another run and fell 6-4.

Knappenberger picked up the loss as she threw eight and a third innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on 10 hits with three strikeouts.
