SVC comeback falls short at Grove City

The Bearcat baseball team fell short in a comeback attempt against Grove City College on the road, losing by a score of 12-7.

The hosts scored seven runs in the second inning and five more in the fourth, to take a 12-0 lead.  In the sixth inning, the Bearcats got a leadoff single from Tanner Yard, and Bobby Finn later drew a walk with two outs.  Pinch-hitter Tom Bash then walked to load the bases, setting the stage for Hunter Mills.  Mills answered with his second grand slam of the season, making the score 12-4.

In the seventh, TJ Dailey doubled home another Bearcat run.

SVC scored twice in the 9th, with a groundout by Yard and a single by Jimmy Wheeler accounting for the runs.

Fred Gillespie (2-2) started and took the loss for Saint Vincent.  Mark Locke (1.2 innings), Ramon Milke (2 innings) and Ryan Shirley (1 inning) each kept the hosts off the board during their time on the mound.

Saint Vincent is now 9-8 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, 17-14 overall.  Grove City improves to 12-4 in the PAC, 22-10 overall.

The Bearcats will be back in action Wednesday (April 24), hosting Westminster College at 3PM.
