The Bearcat baseball team fell short in a comeback attempt against Grove City College on the road, losing by a score of 12-7.
The hosts scored seven runs in the second inning and five more in the fourth, to take a 12-0 lead. Â In the sixth inning, the Bearcats got a leadoff single from
Tanner Yard, and
Bobby Finn later drew a walk with two outs. Â Pinch-hitter
Tom Bash then walked to load the bases, setting the stage for
Hunter Mills. Â Mills answered with his second grand slam of the season, making the score 12-4.
In the seventh,
TJ Dailey doubled home another Bearcat run.
SVC scored twice in the 9th, with a groundout by Yard and a single by
Jimmy Wheeler accounting for the runs.
Fred Gillespie (2-2) started and took the loss for Saint Vincent. Â
Mark Locke (1.2 innings),
Ramon Milke (2 innings) and
Ryan Shirley (1 inning) each kept the hosts off the board during their time on the mound.
Saint Vincent is now 9-8 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, 17-14 overall. Â Grove City improves to 12-4 in the PAC, 22-10 overall.
The Bearcats will be back in action Wednesday (April 24), hosting Westminster College at 3PM.
