The Saint Vincent softball team hosted Westminster College for a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Bearcats fell in both games, 4-2 and 7-6.

Game 1 - Westminster 4, Saint Vincent 2
Â
For the first game, both starting pitchers shut down the opposing team's offense until the fourth inning. In the fourth, Westminster's Cheyenne Shifflet hit a two-run home run to give the Titans the 2-0 lead. In the sixth, Westminster added another run on a groundout.

In the bottom half of the sixth, the Bearcats got on the board.
Lauren Miller struck out but reached first on an error by the catcher. The error allowed
Johnna Karas to score and brought the score to 3-1. Later in the inning,
Riley Assalone singled to right field and scored
Megan Christner.
Â
In the seventh, Westminster added another run and extended the lead to 4-2. The Titans held on by the 4-2 final.

Karas collected a hit while being hit by a pitch twice and scoring once.
Celia Knappenberger pitched all seven innings for the Bearcats giving up four runs (two earned) on five hits with five strikeouts.

Game 2 – Westminster 7, Saint Vincent 6 (8 Inn.)

In the second game, the Titans scored first as two runs scored on a single and a groundout in the top of the first inning.Â

As the game progressed to the bottom of the second, Saint Vincent got on the board as
Shae Robson grounded out to second to score Assalone. Later in the inning,
Kaylee Ludwick hit a single to right field as
Kelly Flaherty scored to tie the game at two.

In the third, Westminster's Ashley Chorney hit a two-run homer to capture the 4-2 lead. The Bearcats answered in the bottom half of the inning as Assalone singled up the middle that plated both Alone Sleith and Miller.

The Titans' Madison Brown gave her team the lead with a solo home run down the right field line. Westminster extended the lead in the sixth as a run scored on an error, as the visitors led 6-4.

In the bottom of the seventh, Saint Vincent clawed back into the game. With two on and one out, Flaherty singled to right field as Robson and Assalone scored to tie the game at six and force extra innings.

In the eighth, the Titans scored a run off a single. In the bottom half of the inning,
Kelsey Tobin and Miller singled with one out. Unfortunately, Saint Vincent went down in the next two at-bats and fell 7-6.

Assalone led the offense by going three-for-five with runs batted in and scoring twice.
Erica Smiley started in the circle for the Bearcats as she pitched six innings giving up six runs (five earned) on nine hits and striking out four.

Before today's doubleheader, Saint Vincent honored its two seniors,
Kelsie Linden and
Kelly Flaherty. Saint Vincent is now 23-13, 11-3 in the PAC and concludes its regular season on Sunday, April 28 at Bethany College. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
