The Saint Vincent softball team hosted Penn State-Altoona in a nonconference doubleheader. The Bearcats fell in both games, 4-2 and 10-2.

Game 1 Recap – Penn State-Altoona 4, Saint Vincent 2

In the first game of the twinbill, it was the Bearcats that got on the board first as
Kaylee Ludwick doubled to center that scored both
Kelly Flaherty and
Johnna Karas. Â Saint Vincent took the 2-0 lead into the fifth inning where the Lions got on the board. Penn State-Altoona followed its one run in the fifth by scoring three in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Bearcats had two runners on with no outs but were not able to plate run. In the seventh, the Bearcats went down in order as the Lions won, 4-2.

Karas went a perfect two-for-two with a run scored.
Celia Knappenberger pitched the complete game, giving up four runs on four hits and striking out five.

Game 2 Recap – Penn State-Altoona 10, Saint Vincent 2

In the second game, it was Penn State-Altoona that got on the board first with five runs off two home runs.

The Bearcats answered in the bottom of the first when
Alona Sleith doubled down the left field line that allowed
Kelsey Tobin and
Shae Robson to score.Â

The score remained this way until the top of the fifth when Penn State-Altoona added five more runs and led 10-2. Â Saint Vincent threatened with a runner on third with one out but could not convert and fell by the eight-run margin in five innings.

Tobin finished the game with three hits and one run in her three at-bats.
Erica Smiley started the game but gave up five runs on four hits and a walk.

Saint Vincent is now 18-8 and will host Carnegie Mellon University on Wednesday, April 10 for a doubleheader. First pitch is at 3:30 p.m.Â
