Bearcats fall to crosstown rival

The Saint Vincent baseball team lost a non-conference game to crosstown rival Pitt-Greensburg by a score of 15-4.

Down 1-0 in the third inning, the Bearcats tied the game when Joe Rudzinski singled home Nate Roebuck, who had led off the inning with a double.  UPG retook the lead on a solo home run in the bottom of the inning, but the Bearcats came back in the fifth.  After Roebuck walked, Tom Bash singled and Parker Janosko walked, loading the bases.  A wild pitch brought home Roebuck to tie the game, then Jimmy Malone drew a walk to once again load the bases.  Zach Mammana then singled home two runs, putting SVC in front, 4-2.

A three-run home run by the Bobcats made it 5-4, and Pitt-Greensburg never looked back, adding 10 more runs in the closing innings.

Ryan Shirley (0-1) started and took the loss, working 4 1/3 innings for the Bearcats.  Offensively, Bash went 3-for-3, while Rudzinski and Mammana each had two hits.

Saint Vincent is now 19-17 on the season.  The Bearcats will host Washington & Jefferson College on Saturday (May 4) in a doubleheader at Bearcat Ballfield.
