The Saint Vincent softball team took on host DePauw University in the first round of the NCAA Division III Softball Regionals. The Bearcats fell to the Tigers 4-1.
The Bearcats threatened in the opening frame with the bases loaded and no outs but they were unable to capitalize. SVC got on the scoreboard first in the top of the third when
Riley Assalone reached on an error by the first baseman.
Kelsey Tobin scored on the play to give the early 1-0 lead.Â
DePauw answered in the bottom of the fourth when it scored two runs on a single to center field. The Tigers added two more runs in the sixth off two singles.
In the top of the seventh, Saint Vincent loaded the bases with two outs but were unable to capitalize and fell by the 4-1 final.
Tobin led the offense with two hits and scoring the lone run.
Celia Knappenberger started in the circle for the Bearcats as she went six innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits.Â
Saint Vincent is now 29-15 and will face Maryville College (Tennessee) on Saturday, May 11 in an elimination game. Start time is estimated around 12:00 p.m.
