WASHINGTON, Pa. (Apr. 20) – The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team showcased a balanced offense and an opportunistic defense to earn a 17-6 win at Washington & Jefferson College.
Seven different players registered at least one goal for the Bearcats (9-1, 3-1 PAC), led by a six-goal, three-assist effort from
Tyler Condrasky, while SVC out-shot the Presidents (5-6, 1-3 PAC) 50-23 and forced 21 turnovers.
The Bearcats wasted little time in taking the lead, as
Caleb Hawkins tallied the first goal and
Jordan Billet added three goals just minutes into the opening period. W&J would tally one goal with 06:37 remaining, but SVC answered and added yet another goal to take the 5-2 lead over the first 15 minutes.
Saint Vincent continued to roll in the second quarter, scoring three more unanswered goals, with two from Condrasky and one from Hawkins to go up 8-4. W&J scored twice over the closing minutes of the half, as SVC took a 8-4 lead into the intermission.
Minutes into the third period, Billet scored for the Bearcats as they continued to extend their lead throughout the third quarter. SVC scored a total of six goals in the third to extend their lead to 14-5 heading to the fourth quarter.
Over the final 15 minutes, SVC added goals by
Ethan Cavin, Condrasky and Hawkins to close out the scoring and cruise to the double-digit win.
The Bearcats would out-score the Presidents 3-1 in the final quarter to cruise to the double-digit win.
In all, six different SVC players registered at least two points, with Condrasky totaling nine (6G, 3A), Billet six (4G, 2A), Hawkins (3G, 1A) and
Matthew Cassidy (4A) four apiece, and
Justin Wodarek three (1G, 2A).
Max Schuler led the SVC defense with three caused turnovers, with Hawkins and
Benjamin Wohlin each forcing two.
Brady Beard and
Brody McMahon each grabbed a team-high seven ground balls. Two players saw time in net for SVC, with
Noah Sperling finishing with five saves and
Colby Missel one.
The Bearcats will face Chatham when they return to action on Monday, April 25, beginning at 4 p.m at UPMC Field.
