LATROBE, Pa. (Mar. 29)- The Saint Vincent men's volleyball team picked up a big sweep against Hiram on Wednesday night.

Saint Vincent (9-8, 7-4 AMCC) controlled from the very beginning against Hiram (7-13, 5-5 AMCC), coming from behind in the first set to win 25-23 and following that up with a 25-17 win in set two and a 25-20 win in set three.

Shawn McSwiggen led the way for the Bearcats, recording 14 kills, eight digs, and four service aces in the big conference win for the Bearcats.
Matthew Minkin recorded another double-double for SVC, tallying 13 kills and picking up ten digs.

Zach Wyant had a game-high 23 assists and also added five kills for the Bearcats.
Matthew Klasnic recorded a team-high 16 digs.

Hiram controlled early on as they held early leads at 8-3 and then increased their lead to 12-6 in the first set. The Bearcats cut into the Hiram lead slightly over the next few points but Hiram still led 17-13.

Saint Vincent responded, scoring the next three points as they cut into the lead at 17-16. The Bearcats and Terriers traded the next couple of points as Hiram still led by one at 20-19 and then 23-21. Saint Vincent closed the set out with a quick 4-0 run on two kills from McSwiggen and a kill from Wyant and Minkin to win the first set (25-23), taking a 1-0 lead in the match.

In the second set it was all Saint Vincent. The Bearcats trailed early at 4-3 but took control from that point. SVC scored the next eight points to take an 11-3 lead in the set. The Bearcats continued on the attack as they still held a commanding seven-point lead at 16-9 after back-to-back kills from Minkin.

Saint Vincent and Hiram traded the next couple of points as the Bearcats still led by seven at 20-13. The Bearcats outscored the Terriers 4-2 over the final six points on two attack errors by Hiram and a kill from McSwiggen and Minkin as SVC won set two (25-17), taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third set the Bearcats jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead on kills by McSwiggen and
Chrystiaan Sexton, followed by an attack error by the Terriers. Hiram stormed back with a 7-2 run to take a 7-5 lead in the set.

SVC answered scoring the next six points to take an 11-7 lead in the third set. Hiram never answered that Saint Vincent run as the Bearcats held a steady 4-6 point lead the rest of the set. The Bearcats ended the match on an attack error by the Terriers after three straight points to win the set (25-20) and the match 3-0.

The Bearcats compiled 39 kills, eight service aces, eight blocks, 34 assists, and 54 digs in the win.

Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, April 1, traveling to Thiel for an AMCC matchup. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
