LATROBE, Pa. (April 23) – The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day with a 28-3 victory over Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Thiel College at a blustery UPMC Field.
Twelve different Saint Vincent (12-2, 4-1 PAC) players registered at least one goal, as the Bearcats roared out to an 11-1 first quarter lead and never looked back. Saint Vincent took a season-high 69 shots in the win, and tied a season-best with 28 goals.
After being recognized for their Bearcat careers in a pregame ceremony, the Saint Vincent senior class had a big day on the field.
Jacob Visalli led all players with nine points, on six goals and three assists, while classmate
Jordan Billet scored three goals with four helpers,
Matthew Cassidy four goals and two assists, and
Caleb Hawkins scored two goals with one assist.
A trio of freshmen also had big days offensively for the Bearcats, as
Eli Hartle scored a career-high four goals,
Liam McCall scored two goals with one assist and
Jonathan Nagy netted two goals.
Junior
Carter Haid registered a career-high two goals in the win, while
Brady Beard,
Justin Vezzi,
Colin Coleman and
Jacob Crumling all scored one goal apiece.
The SVC defensive effort was also led by a senior, as
Brody McMahon recorded a season-high eight caused turnovers, while also corralling eight ground balls. McMahon was one of 11 Bearcats credited with at least one caused turnover, with Cassidy and
RJ Kenna each recording two.
Along with his goal, Beard was a stellar 19-for-21 on faceoffs and snared nine ground balls, while
Colin Cooper with 11-for-14 in the faceoff circle, and Kenna, Visalli,
Robbie Abraham and
Max Schuler each grabbed four ground balls.
Noah Sperling played the first 30 minutes in goal and saved two of three shots to earn the win.
The SVC senior class of McMahon, Billet, Hawkins, Cassidy, Visalli,
Andrew Coholich,
Sean Sosnak and
Shane Stone has helped the Bearcats post a 38-8 overall record and 15-4 conference mark over their four-year careers.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Wednesday, April 26, hosting PAC foe Franciscan at 4 p.m. at UPMC Field.
