GREENSBURG, Pa. (Nov. 17)- The Saint Vincent mens tennis team concluded its Fall season with a doubleheader sweep header sweep of crosstown rival, Pitt Greensburg, both by a score of 7-0.
In the first match of the afternoon the Bearcats used a forfeit win at third doubles and a 6-0 win by Deven Summers and August Lawrence at first doubles to claim the lone doubles point of the match and go up 1-0.
A forfeit win at sixth singles by the Bobcats gave the green and gold a 2-0 advantage in the match before Braden Yokopenic rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles, giving SVC a 3-0 lead. Jack Citrone secured the first win of then day for Saint Vincent with a 6-1, 6-0 win at fourth singles, extending the lead to 4-0. Brady Johnson and Kyle Murray also claimed straight sets victories in the match, while Matthew Sadusky battled back for a three-set victory at first singles to land the final blow of the day and give SVC a 7-0 win.
The second match of the day was much the same for the Bearcats netters, using a forfeit at third doubles and a 6-0 win by Lawrence and Yokopenic at first doubles to claim the doubles point before a sixth singles forfeit gave Saint Vincent the 2-0 lead heading into singles play.
The Bearcats secured their second team win of the day behind the strength of 6-0, 6-0 singles wins from Lawrence and Anthony Sparta to put the score at 4-0. Next off for the Bearcats were Summers and Brian Lee claiming matching 6-3, 6-1 wins to extend the lead to 6-0. The final point of the day was claimed by J.T. Gockel, a 6-0, 6-0 win at fifth singles, to give the green and gold a 7-0 win.
Saint Vincent concludes the Fall portion of its schedule an unblemished 5-0 and will look ahead to the Spring campaign kick-off on February 23 against Mt. Aloysius.
