WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (Dec. 20)- The Saint Vincent wrestling team competed at the Wilkes University Open against nine NCAA Division I programs, along with 21 programs across all three divisions on Friday in Wilkes-Barre.
Ryan Weinzen recorded an impressive finish in the strong field for the Bearcats. Weinzen finished 3-1 on the day, finishing sixth overall in the 184 lbs. weight class for Saint Vincent. Weinzen first earned a win by fall at 1:19 against Devin Doty of Wilkes to begin his day. After falling in his lone match of the day to Logan Eller of division I Appalachain State by a slight 7-4 decsion, he concluded his day with two more victories.
First he took down Jared Bilinski of Wilkes by fall at 1:30, before earning a 7-5 decision against the fourth ranked wrestler in the 184 lbs. weight class in the country in Isaac Cory of Pennsylvania College of Technology to conclude his impressive performance.
Ryan Yocum was also strong for SVC, going 2-2 on the day in the 141 lbs. weight class. After earning a first round bye victory, Yocum earned his second victory of the day against Andre Sheppard of Marymount University, earning a victory by fall at 2:09.Â
The Bearcats will now enjoy some time off for the Christmas holiday before returning to action on Friday, January 10 as they travel to Hampton, Virginia to compete in the Virginia Duals.Â
