WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 15)- The Saint Vincent wrestling team finished as the runners up at the 2025 Presidents Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Waynesburg University on Saturday.
The day for the Bearcats was highlighted by their two individual champions as
Sean Cain won the 125 lbs. weight class for the second consecutive year and
Chase Brandebura picked up his second consecutive PAC Championship at 165 lbs. for SVC.
Cain, the top seed in the 125 lbs. weight class earned a first round bye into the semifinals, where he picked up a pin at 25 seconds to advance to the championship. Cain picked up a forfeit victory in the championship match against his teammate
Sam Snyder. Snyder picked up a 17-2 tech. fall victory in the quarters and 14-3 major decision in the semi's against second seeded Michael Cruz to advance to the championship and finish in second place.
Brandebura advanced to the semifinals at 165 lbs. after a 5-1 decision against Will Domico of W&J. He followed with a pin at 43 seconds against Giovanni Elinsky of Thiel to advance to the championship match. In the championship, he followed with a pin at 2:50 against Jiovanni DeChicchis to win the championship for the second consecutive year.
Saint Vincent also had five second place finishers, which included Snyder at 125 lbs., at the championship tournament as well.
Kyle McCollum finished in second at 133 lbs., picking up two consecutive decision victories to get to the championship, before falling 11-10 in the championship match.
Ryan Yocum added a second place result at 141 lbs. Yocum defeated Chase Kyler of Thiel by pin at 4:47 in semi's, before falling in the finals.
At 149 lbs.,
Anthony Orlandini was the third consecutive runner-up for SVC. The freshman downed JT Hollyfield of Waynesburg by a 24-9 tech. fall victory to get to the championship match. Orlandini was also named to the PAC's Sportsmanship team. Another Saint Vincent freshman,
Nathan Barkley, recorded a runner-up finish in the 174 lbs. weight class. Barkley recorded consecutive falls to advance to the PAC Championship in his first season with SVC.
Ryan Weinzen (184 lbs.),
Logan Bechtold (157 lbs.),
Tyler Debnar (149 lbs.), and
Tyler Clark (141 lbs.) all added third place finishes for Saint Vincent as well.
Washington and Jefferson took home the team championship with 116.5 total points. Saint Vincent finished second with 99 total points, while Thiel (55), Hiram (44.5), and Waynesburg (37.5) rounded out the standings.
Saint Vincent will now prepare for the NCAA Regional Championships, which are set to take place Friday, February 28 and Saturday, March 1 at Averett University in Danville, Virginia.Â
